Barre classes combine ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga, and strength training.
Barre is a low-impact class, but it also includes high-intensity movements that will strengthen your body in ways many have not experienced in most other class types.
Barre is a full-body workout that improves flexibility, agility, as well as strength. You won’t just be using the ballet barres either, many of the classes include sliders, bender balls, resistance bands, and light dumbbells, too.
The focus during a Barre workout is on glutes, arms, core, and legs, but also in developing muscular endurance while hitting the entire body.
By using high repetitions of small movements that target specific muscles combined with lighter weight and resistance, you’re able to really fatigue your muscles which is necessary for improvement. Imagine doing squat pulses that target your upper legs and glutes, using light weights to hammer out as many biceps curls as you can, or moving through a series of core exercises to tighten your tummy and build more core strength.
Don’t let the idea of lighter weights fool you though, your muscles will be on fire before you’re finished!
Hopefully, we’ve done a good job explaining how Barre classes not only improves flexibility and balance, but also is a great strengthening class for your entire body.
But wait, there’s more! Barre is also a great endurance booster, helps postural issues, and can increase the range of motion in your joints.
