Detox Diets Debunked

Detox Diets Debunked

Detox diets are advertised as a way to lose weight quickly, but does the effect last long term? The answer is no. Don’t be fooled by detoxing. Detoxing is advertised to eliminate toxins from the body and aid in various health problems like obesity. We get it. It’s hard not to get excited when you hear things like, “I lost 7 pounds in a week”, “my skin is glowing”, “I have so much energy”, etc.

The Reality of Detoxing

Here is the bad news about detoxes: they might not give you the lasting results that you are looking for. Detoxes claim that they are intended to flush out bad toxins from your system, which will then result in weight loss, healthier skin, hair, and nails, more energy, etc. And though you may experience some of these benefits the most important thing to remember is that long term fat loss will not be one of them.

When starting a detox ask yourself this question: "Why am I doing this?" Sounds simple, right? Really think about the overall results you are trying to obtain. Many people will answer that they are doing a detox because they have been
eating poorly and want to reset and lose weight. Detoxing is a temporary solution to this problem. Yes, it may be true that you can lose up to 10 pounds when detoxing. You are not losing much fat, if any, but rather water weight and carbohydrate storage. Ultimately whether you lose 5, 8, or even 12 pounds there is a 100% guarantee that you will gain most of it back.

Choose a Healthy Diet over Detoxing

There are many claimed benefits to doing a detox, and we aren’t going to sit here and try to debunk all of them because for some people a detox does exactly what they wanted it to. But detoxing for fat loss is a myth. So for those who are doing a detox because you want to lose fat, you are being fooled. If you are looking for a long-term solution to weight management, skip the detox and start a real diet and exercise program; you will thank yourself in the long run!
