The Check-in for Charity for January and February will benefit the In a Heartbeat foundation. Member Kate Ainsworth and her husband, both teachers, are passionate about this cause. Years ago, Kate's husband had a student, Mike Papale, who survived cardiac arrest at age 17. The incident occurred at a rec center in Wallingford without an AED, inspiring Mike to create the In a Heartbeat foundation. The foundation aims to prevent death from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and sudden cardiac arrest by raising awareness, donating AEDs, and providing free ECG screenings for kids and teens. The Check in For Charity for the months of November and December is the Town of Berlin Holiday Assistance Program. Many of our neighbors, friends, and families are out of work and facing financial hardships. The Holiday Assistance Program relies on the generosity of Berlin's residents and local business owners to help make this a joyful holiday season for all. Your Facebook Check-ins will go towards helping those in need of assistance this holiday season. For Thanksgiving, families are provided all the items they need for their holiday meal. This year, SIN Fitness celebrates 9 incredible years in business, and I can’t help but reflect on the journey. So much has happened in the past nine years, and I feel incredibly thankful to be part of this thriving community. When we first opened, I wasn’t even married, let alone a mom of two.
