Member of the Month for May is Sarah Jensen!! She’s been with us for almost 4 years and has had an amazing transformation along the way.
Sarah works hard, shows up consistently, and brings such a positive energy to every class. She not only holds herself accountable—she holds her gym friends accountable too, even coming back to take classes with them just to show her support.
She and her husband are a great team, keeping each other on track and committed. Sarah, your dedication, heart, and support for others make a big impact here. How long have you been coming to SIN Fitness?
I am celebrating my 4-year SINiversary this month!!!
Do you remember your first workout?
I have to be honest- I cannot remember with 100% certainty.
I DO remember that I was full of nerves because I had never done group classes.
My gut says it was Kick-fit because that was the class that got me excited to join, but I had a very memorable evening Barre class with Rob when I started. He made me feel so welcomed and comfortable. I just can’t remember which came first.
How would you describe your lifestyle before SIN Fitness? How would you describe it now?
In my 30’s my health was starting to show signs of decline, I was well over 300lbs, my bloodwork was awful, and I was in some kind of pain all the time.
I had never worked out with purpose for the first 30 years of my life. After suffering a devastating full term pregnancy loss in 2013, I knew I had to act and start taking better care of myself.
The next chapter was a roller coaster of ups and downs that included countless weight fluctuations, pregnancy, two separate moves, job changes, and I could never find an exercise routine that kept me engaged long enough to make it a true lifestyle change.
Today, thanks to my years with SIN Fitness, I am so proud to say that I don’t know how I could ever go back to any type of lifestyle that doesn’t include a solid investment in fitness. I recently hit my 100lbs lost milestone and I am looking forward to hitting more. My husband has also joined, and my daughter is learning from our example, taking on sports and the occasional Kid-Fit class at SIN.
If you could design your perfect workout, what would it be?
I do love the days when I get to do back-to-back classes so the perfect workout would definitely be a double for me!! Even though it’s not for everyone, I feel so accomplished and energetic when I leave after spending a couple of hours in the gym.
The perfect session would be a class that included all of my favorites: Heavy weight Kettlebells, dumbbells, deadlifts, and back squats. I feel the most empowered when I do exercises that allow me to push a lot of weight. I would follow it up with one of our amazing Yoga classes. They have helped me manage my stress and anxiety and my flexibility has greatly improved.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of starting at SIN Fitness?
Welcome to your new obsession!! The owners, coaches, and support staff at SIN collectively make an environment where anyone can walk in, disconnect, and take the time that we all so desperately need (especially these days), to take care of ourselves.
Group classes take the guess work out of exercise and make it easy to focus on the feeling it gives you rather than what you are doing next- the next is always mapped out for you.
The classes are challenging but fully inclusive. There are modifications for literally any exercise or personal limitation and the coaches are all so gracious in helping you and encouraging you to keep going even when you feel like you are failing.
The other members are all so supportive of one another and honestly, it’s just a lot of FUN being here.
