I joined SIN about 4.5 years ago! My first class was a tough Tuesday afternoon Bootcamp that definitely pushed me way out of my comfort zone. I remember thinking during my trial period that this might be both my first and lass class (but I clearly stuck with it 😊). I’ve always enjoyed being active, but consistency was never my strong suit. I’d go through phases of working out every day and running 10Ks for months at a time, then fall into stretches of barely being active for over a year. When I first joined SIN, I was only going to the gym a couple times a week and wasn’t really paying attention to nutrition. Since then, I’ve steadily built up my routine and now aim for five workouts a week. This is the most consistent I’ve ever been, and I feel stronger and fitter than I ever have as an adult. I’ve also become much more mindful of how nutrition supports my results. What advice would you give to anyone thinking of starting at SIN Fitness? My advice would be to start by trying as many different classes as you can! SIN has something for every style and energy level, so it’s worth exploring until you find the ones that click with you. Once you find classes and a schedule that fits, it’s so much easier to keep showing up, especially when you start to see your usual gym buddies and coaches. I’d also say go in just focusing on your own progress. Some days you’ll surprise yourself with what you can do, and other days simply showing up is the biggest win. It’s tempting to look around and compare yourself to others, but there’s no single “right” way to move your body. What matters most is that you keep progressing in a way that works for you. And finally, try to celebrate what your body can do instead of worrying about what it can’t do (yet). Shifting my mindset toward gratitude for movement and strength has made working out way less stressful and has been the biggest factor in my consistency. It becomes less about chasing perfection and more about appreciating the progress, which makes the whole experience so much better.
Do you remember your first workout?
How would you describe your lifestyle before SIN Fitness? How would you describe it now?
If you could design your perfect workout what would it be?
I love my Power Hours (I haven’t missed a cycle in four years), so my perfect workout would mostly include heavy lifting, upper body is always my favorite. As surprising as it feels to admit, I’ve grown to really enjoy Rock & Row’s. After lifting, I’d add in a short partner workout (shoutout to my favorite rowing partner, Kate Ainsworth!) that combines rowing with some faster-paced functional movements.
