For the Check in For Charity for the months of January and February is “In a Heart Beat” Member Kate Ainsworth and her husband are both teachers, and many years ago, he had a student named Mike Papale who went into cardiac arrest at the age of 17. He was at a local rec center in Wallingford where they did not have an AED, and was lucky to survive. As an adult, Mike started the In a Heartbeat foundation. The foundation donates AEDs to places that need, but do not have them. They also run screenings for kids and teens to detect heart issues before having an emergency situation. (in a heart beat)Our mission is to prevent death from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and sudden cardiac arrest by raising awareness, enabling research, and donating automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to places that need them. In a Heartbeat is located in Wallingford Connecticut and we also provide CPR/AED training and host free community ECG screenings for children, teens, and young adults.
