Member of the Month: Elise Suchocki 💙

Elise is the definition of strength, inside and out. Over the past year, she’s shown up with determination, grit, and a positive attitude while facing challenges most of us can’t imagine. Through it all, she never stopped moving forward, and we’re incredibly happy to celebrate her recent clear PET scan. Elise truly kicked cancer’s butt and she continues to kick butt every time she walks into the gym.

Whether she’s crushing it in Kickfit or jumping into other classes, Elise brings effort, energy, and heart to everything she does. She’s always cheering others on, celebrating wins (big and small), and making the gym a better place just by being in it.

How long have you been coming to SIN Fitness?  

I have been a member of the SIN family since 11/24

Do you remember your first workout?

My first workout was a Monday Night Charlotte Kickfit class. I was so scared and anxious walking back into a Kickboxing gym but I instantly knew that I was “home.” I found “my bag” and haven’t moved from it since! I also had the privilege of taking my first class with Hannah Liechty. Her smile and encouragement gave me the courage to go all 6 rounds! 

How would you describe your lifestyle before SIN Fitness? How would you describe it now? 

Prior to my cancer diagnosis in 2023, working out and kickboxing was a part of my daily life. I was able to push myself to levels of exhaustion and achieve goals that I didn’t think possible. I was performance driven. I was never concerned about rest days, muscle strain, or that I wouldn’t achieve my goals. That all changed with the words “you have cancer.” I couldn’t physically do the one thing that I loved. My workouts went from burpees and weight lifting to being happy to walk to the end of my driveway! I missed the high energy work outs and the empowerment from hitting a bag hard! 

My friend Holly McPherson kept telling me to “just try my gym, you’ll love it.” Returning to a gym was not just physically challenging but also mentally. My strength and stamina were not the same and even basic movements caused me to fatigue quickly. I was happy to achieve 6,000 on the bag!  Progress happened gradually and some workouts felt impossible but I kept pushing. Mentally, working out  was so much harder! I needed to have patience and confidence in myself. There was frustration at not being able to do what once felt easy but there was pride in showing up and not giving up.  There were days when I cried after a workout because “the old” Elise was gone. BUT every one of my SIN family members encouraged me to keep coming even with a simple smile in the hall.

If you could design your perfect workout what would it be? 

My PERFECT workout … Jen’s 80s playlist during a Gabby/Rasheeb combat fit with Danielle yelling “Hit it” to do more burpees and of course Emma saying, “Elise that’s perfect.” On my 2026 work out bucket list is kickfit with a weighted vest!

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of starting at SIN Fitness? 

Be patient with yourself. Progress isn’t linear and strength comes in many forms. Celebrate every small victory … even going up in weights or doing one more burpee. I would also recommend trying every class even if they are scary!
