The May/June Check-in for Charity is dedicated to helping the DeMaio children, here in Berlin. Kristin DeMaio was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare cancer, in early 2016. She bravely battled a long year of chemotherapy and radiation, always putting everyone else first, especially her children.
The March/April Check in for Charity is brought to you by our members, Wes. Wes was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at the age of 7. As a child Wes struggled with things most of us take for granted, such as: attending school, playing sports, going shopping, etc.
This January/February Check in for Charity is brought to us by Sue. For those of you who don’t know who Sue is, try a Yoga class! Sue’s Uncle, Peter Lavery, was a 17 year veteran of the Newington Police Department when he was fatally shot on the evening of December 30, 2004 while responding a to domestic disturbance call. He was also a Berlin resident for about 25 years.
After 5 years in remission, Anthony received the news in April of 2017 that the cancer had returned. Surgical removal was not an option due to the extent of the tumor growth and it was recommended that he look into one of the drug trials that is being researched for this devastating disease.
