January 2022 Member of the Month Cathryn Madey

January 2022 Member of the Month - Cathryn MadeyThe SIN Fitness member of the month for January goes to Cathryn Madey!

Cat has been a member of SIN for more than 2 years. She takes a variety of classes but you can mostly find her at 9:30am Bootcamp. She has made quite the transformation since joining.

Recently, she participated in our fitness challenge and crushed it, losing body fat, and gaining confidence and strength! She also just completed Hell Week and did not shy away from heavy weights during these intense workouts. Many coaches have noticed her really pushing herself even further out of her comfort zone, grabbing heavier weights, and being an encouraging and supportive athlete to other members.

We are so proud of her and how far she has come, next up for Cat - A Team Comp!

How long have you been coming to Strength in Numbers?
Since September 2019!

My friend Jen Kern wouldn’t stop talking about SIN and how amazing it was! She made me (ha! yes made me!) buy a Groupon! Took me about 3 months to actually make the leap and sign up!

Do you remember your first workout?
I don’t remember what the actual workout was but I’m pretty sure Nicole was the coach and I remember Kaylee walking me through each exercise! It was a nice added bonus! Even though I had been to a gym many times before and knew most of the exercises, that is what sets this gym apart. To take the time (every class!!) to go over the exercises is so important! And I totally understand that now! However, what I do specifically remember is cursing at Jen the next day as to how sore I was!

How would you describe you lifestyle before Strength in Numbers? How would you describe it now?
Ha!! Umm before… lazy! No, but definitely no where close to the amount of exercise after joining SIN! I always dabbled going through the same “new year/ new gym resolution”! It would last a few months, then dwindled to nothing. And the cycle would repeat! I have been a stay at home mom for almost 8 years so early on I would eat the leftovers of my kids plates, snack on goldfish and pirates booty or worse… forget to eat!!! In those first few years of parenthood, like many, I gained lots of extra weight and when I started SIN I was at my heaviest. Fast forward to a little more than 2 years and I am in the best shape of my life because of SIN and the AMAZING SIN community!!

If you could design your perfect workout what would it be?
My perfect workout… I think it would have to be a YGIG or AMRAP! I love those styles that have team workouts or partnered! I, personally, thrive on encouragement and the cheering on of everyone in class. In the first few classes, I was super nervous and didn’t want to “hold anyone up” but I realized in this gym, it’s that accountability that we all show each other that pushes me to the end!!! There’s nothing greater than having the whole class finish together. I seriously love this gym!

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of starting at Strength in Numbers?
I like to think of it like the snickers slogan… why wait?!

Seriously! Why wait?! There’s nothing holding you back, except you!

With everything that’s going on in life, it’s so important to take the time for yourself- physically and mentally. The transformation isn’t instant, it takes time and there are times when I do not want to show up. At all. But you know what? I’ve never regretted showing up after. And you won’t either. Take the leap… just don’t wait as long as I did. I couldn’t have found a better place for my feet to land than at SIN!
