July 2021 Member of the Month Melissa Sullivan

June 2021 Member of the Month Melissa SullivanWe’re excited to announce Melissa Sullivan as our SIN member of the month of July!

The past year has been particularly difficult for Melissa and her family. She worked tirelessly throughout the Covid shutdown, teaching her class remotely as her husband endured serious medical diagnosis. But instead of giving up, she pushed harder during her workouts and always with a smile (and maybe an eye roll).

Melissa is a regular in Kick-Fit and has been since she joining SIN. Her incredible power and fierce intensity explode with each strike on the bag. It’s amazing to watch!

We’re proud of Melissa for challenging herself in so many other classes at SIN, from Bootcamp Basics to Bootcamp Blast, to Bootcamp, from yoga to AAA, she does it all. No matter the class, she livens up each one with her playful spirit and strong determination.

She is, without a doubt, 100% Badass. 💪🏼❤️🧘🏻‍♀️🥊🥊🏋🏻‍♂️💪🏼❤️❤️

How long have you been coming to SIN Fitness?
I started in February 2019. So a little over two years!

Do you remember your first workout?
Of course - I could never forget. It was a Saturday morning Kickfit class… Alisha was the instructor and Pat was my “helper”! I had no idea who anyone was. I was very new and didn’t know anyone in this town. I was quiet… I was a little scared. I just didn’t want to look like a fool. I hadn’t ever done kickboxing on the bag before. I did it as a punch and crunch type class with no impact.

I remember feeling foolish trying to wrap my hands, but once I put on those gloves…. Oh my… something happened! It felt like magic! You feel fearless.

When the warm up began I remember thinking… Is it ever going to end? Once we got started Pat was her usual gentle, sweet self and showed me the moves… It may have been JAB CROSS HOOK… and it’s history from there! I just remember loving it so much. And telling everyone at work about how much I loved my new gym!

How would you describe you lifestyle before SIN Fitness?
I have always worked out! I have to be active for my mind and body. I was on track and field in high school, I played Rugby in college at CCSU. I love team sports. I love the support, I love cheering others on. Team sports helped me stay in shape and I connected with the girls on my team. After college, I continued working out with gym memberships.

How would you describe it now?
I love group classes even more now that I’m older! It’s really the only time I get to see most of my friends! When we aren’t running around town chauffeuring our kids around, we are at SIN putting ourselves first.

I love the variety of classes at SIN. I get bored easily, so I like switching it up and taking a little of everything SIN has to offer! I am loving the new arm blast, Bootcamp Blast and Booty Camp. Working out makes me feel good about myself. I feel strong, I feel healthier and feel energized. When I miss a day at SIN I seriously have FOMO! It is a real problem.

Every week we plan our workout classes together! I know it sounds lame… but most of us have to remind each other to sign up for classes… I am the worst at remembering when to sign up! So everyone will text, call and stalk me until I respond! I love the fact that we hold each other accountable.

I give every single person out there so much credit for making working out a top priority in their lives. This past Spring, many of us were juggling work, driving kids around to sports practice and games… end of the year activities….and we still squeezed an hour of time in at SIN for ourselves. We all should be so proud.

If you could design your perfect workout what would it be?
Working out in the morning during my summer vacation…. A yoga warm up, a kickboxing middle and maybe a finisher of SALLY!

Green Sally up and green Sally down
Lift and squat, gotta tear the ground

Then wrapping up the morning by meeting up for coffee after class. A perfect start to my day.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of starting at SIN Fitness?
JUST DO IT. There is never going to be a right time…. Now is the time. This will change your life. You are worth it. There is no price too high for your health! So do yourself a favor and spend the money on a membership! As moms… we spend so much money on our kids… but they need us the be happy and healthy!

Join Strenth in Numbers because working out alone is boring… if you sign up for a class, it makes you want to go! Do something for yourself. I promise, you will not regret it. The friendships that you make, the confidence that you gain, and the improvements to your mental and physical health are priceless! 💙
