11 Years of SIN Fitness: Strength in Numbers

Eleven years. It’s hard to believe that SIN Fitness has been part of our lives for that long. When we opened SIN 11 years ago, we had no idea what we were creating. We wanted to build a great gym, help people get stronger and healthier, and create a place where people enjoyed coming to work out. But somewhere along the way, SIN became so much more than a gym. It became a community. And honestly, that is the part I am most proud of. SIN stands for Strength In Numbers, and after 11 years, I don’t think there could be a better name for this place. There really is strength in numbers. There is strength in having people who know your name, notice when you’re ....

  • Are You Recovering as Hard as You’re Training?

Are You Recovering as Hard as You’re Training?

We spend a lot of time talking about working hard. Push yourself. Add another rep. Pick up a heavier weight. Finish strong. And yes, challenging yourself is an important part of getting better. But there’s another part of training that doesn’t get nearly enough attention: Recovery. Recovery isn't the opposite of working hard. It's part of the work. Resting Between Sets Isn't Wasting Time This is one of the easiest things to overlook. When you're strength training, you don't need to rush from one exercise to the next just to keep your heart rate up. Resting between sets gives your muscles time to recover so you can perform the next set with better form, more ....

Check in For Charity: Benhaven Academy

Our Check in for Charity for September and October is Benhaven Academy, a cause that is near and dear to the hearts of SIN members Kari Sassu and Yana Strevens, whose sons attend the school. What makes Benhaven special is the way students are truly met where they are and supported by caring staff who recognize their individual strengths, encourage their goals, and help them grow academically and socially on their own terms. As Kari shared, “My son shows up as himself & is recognized as the capable, kind person he is.” Daniel, Yana’s son, describes his teachers as caring, fair and always willing to help their students. Donations to Benhaven help provide ....

Congratulations to our August Member of the Month, Kate Ainsworth! For nearly two years, Kate has been a true example of what consistency and hard work can accomplish. She has become incredibly strong, crushing unassisted pull-ups, continuing to increase her weights, and proving that showing up pays off. Along the way, she's also made great progress with her nutrition, lost weight, and looks amazing. What makes Kate even more deserving of this recognition is the person she is. She's always encouraging others, inspires both our members and coaches, and is an active part of the SIN Fitness community. Whether she's participating in team competitions, joining us for trivia nights, or ....

  • Why Protein After Your Workout Matters

Why Protein After Your Workout Matters

You just finished a great workout. Your heart rate is coming down, you've pushed your muscles, and now your recovery begins. One of the best things you can do after exercise is give your body the protein it needs to recover and rebuild. During strength training, we create tiny tears in our muscle fibers. While that may sound bad, it's actually how we get stronger! Protein provides the amino acids your body uses to repair those muscles, helping you recover, build lean muscle, and be ready for your next workout. Getting enough protein after exercise can help: Support muscle recovery and growth Reduce muscle soreness Help maintain lean muscle as we age Keep you ....

Check in for Charity: Scottie's Christmas in July

Scottie’s Christmas in July supports the Child Life Program at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, a donation-based program that helps children from newborn through age 18 cope with treatments, procedures, and hospital stays through play, education, and support. This cause is especially meaningful to SIN member Jana Menta. In 2016, Jana’s husband received chemotherapy treatments at Smilow Cancer Hospital. During his treatments, they regularly saw children courageously battling cancer and other illnesses, inspiring Jana to find a way to help. After her husband’s treatments were completed, Jana launched Christmas in July in 2017 to support the Child Life ....
